Pryor High School’s state champion LifeSmarts team recently traveled to Chicago to compete in the 31st annual National LifeSmarts Competition—and they did a fantastic job representing Oklahoma on the national stage!

Our team earned a top score in Round 1 with their creative over-the-counter medicine TikTok video, ranking second in the nation in that category! In individual competition, senior Ryleigh Hill brought home a scholarship and placed third in the nation on the Health and Safety category test. While the team narrowly missed a Top 16 finish—placing 22nd overall—we could not be more proud of their preparation, effort, and poise throughout the competition.

But the trip wasn’t all about competition. Students made the most of their time in the Windy City with sightseeing and cultural experiences. Highlights included:

  • Visiting Navy Pier and the iconic Chicago Bean

  • Exploring the Magnificent Mile (with lots of walking!)

  • Eating authentic deep-dish pizza

  • Dining at Harry Caray’s Restaurant

  • Attending a Chicago Cubs baseball game, which included an exciting public tram ride

  • Pausing to take that special senior picture

The LifeSmarts program, created by the National Consumers League, challenges high school students to build real-world skills in areas such as personal finance, consumer rights, health and safety, the environment, and technology. It provides an excellent platform for young people to gain knowledge they’ll use throughout their lives—all while competing at local, state, and national levels.
